First, we apologize for any trouble you are having. Normally the process goes very smoothly for most everyone. Once in a while, there is something setup or missing on the users computer or ipod/itunes that interferes with it working.
Please follow these steps and let us know the results and answers to any questions. (Please excuse us if you have already done some of this or it seems redundant, but it really will help us get you up and running quicker)
First, a couple of backround questions:
A. XP or Vista? if XP, service pack 2 or 3 installed?
B. Which version ipod(nano, video ipod, shuffle, ipod touch, older ipod)? Shuffle not supported.
C. Do the lessons play properly running just the AudioFy player on the PC with the bookchip pluged into the USB?
D Make sure you have the latest Bookchip AudioFy software. Download from here: http://www.iofy.com/download
Please verify the version of your downloaded Audiofy player software. click Help->About in the audiofy player menu- latest version is: 3.1.x
Please ensure you have the latest itunes
Please follow this procedure. If you run into trouble with any step, please give detail of what went wrong or didnt work, and any error messages.
F. Make sure the "hold" switch is NOT on on the ipod. Plug in the ipod, wait for itunes to open.
In itunes, on the left under "Devices", click your ipod.
In the main itunes screen, in the Version section(middle section), it should say your ipod is up to date.
In the "Options" section(bottom section), make sure itunes is set to "Manually Manage Music" for the ipod.
Then close itunes.
->Please follow this sequence(note this is drawn out for troubleshooting purposes):
1. unplug ipod, and the bookchip from the computer.
Turn OFF the ipod.
Close iTunes if open.
Close the AudioFy Player is open
2. After everything is closed and unplugged, Plug in the ipod, wait for itunes to start. Then select your ipod under "Devices" on the left of the itunes window.
3. From this point on, please do not click on anything in itunes, and make sure it stays running!
4. plug in the bookchip. An explorer window might open or the audiofy player might start.
If it does, close the window or the player(make sure it is not running). It might be the old software that comes pre-installed in the chip.
5. Find the lasest audioFy software you just downloaded and installed, and start it.(not the one on the bookchip).
You can verifty the version if you click in the audiofy menu File->About version should be 3.1.0.1229
6. In the audioFy player window, select the Course from the top on the list, then all the lessons will be displayed. This is important.
7. Click the "Pause" button(bottom center of the audioFy player window) on the aufioFy player, because the lessons start automatically, and this will slow things down.
8. In the audiofy player, click the menu item File->Zip. Wait until the Zip window opens. It says "Where would you like to zip?"
9. Click the ipod. The window will say if it detected the ipod and if the lessons will fit.
10. Click "Next". You will see all the lessons with a checkbox next to them. This allows you to select which lessons will be transfered to the ipod.
11. Click "Next" again, and the lessons will start to transfer. You will see the progress in the AufioFy zip window as the lessons transfer.
12. As each lesson finishes transferring, you should see a message in itunes that says "Updating Files on your iPod". This shows the sync from itunes to ipod. To see this you have to have itunes and the AudioFy
window both open at the same time and watch for it in the top-center area of iTunes where it shows the current track.
13 once the transfer is complete, the audiofy window will say "Wait". Wait 40 seconds and make sure no files are still "syncing" in itunes as described above.
14. "Eject" your ipod in itunes. Use the icon in itunes next to your ipod under "Devices" in the left side of the itunes window.
15. Check in the audioBooks area on the ipod to find the lessons.
FYI: Normally, it takes about 5-20 minutes to do the transfer, it can vary depending on your computer, what is running on it, usb drivers, ipod version ect and how many lessons transferred.
The bookchip cannot be transferred to CD, nor directly to itunes. The bookchip can be used when plugged into the computer with the audioFy software, or transferred to an ipod(which uses itunes to do the transfer) or any WMA-compatible portible device(mp3 player/smartphone, ect). You can also use itunes to play the lessons that are on the ipod.
